Fern Ridge Reservoir
is located in Eugene, Oregon and is fed mainly by the Long Tom
River. This is a very shallow lake with the exception of the
channels and the dam. The shallow mud flats and stained water
seems to keep most bass fishermen away from Fern Ridge, but very
large bass are sleeping here almost untouched. Visible structure
here includes standing timber, reeds and grass, rocks from the
dam, and a few stumps. The key here is to find what you can't
see. An old road bed, ditches, and many more stumps than you
think give the big fish here many places to hide. Spinnerbaits,
crankbaits, and weightless jerkbaits are a great starting point
for search baits. Don't give up on a slow day because the slightest
change in shallow water can turn fish on. |
